Remembrance Day ... In Memory Of..

Thomas William Ramsey, Harris Blues

This weekend we
Col. James N. Ramsey, Ramsey's 1st Georgia
remember and honor the brave men and women who served our country. We decorate the graves of our fallen heroes and proudly display our flag on our homes and along our highways.

William T. Ramsey, USN; Nolan Ramsey, Seabees

In 1866, Columbus, Georgia  a group of women from the Soldiers Aid Society  formed the Ladies Memorial Association and set aside one day a year dedicated  to caring for and decorating the graves of the soldiers buried in Linwood Cemetery. They  asked my Great-great- uncle, Col. James N. Ramsey, to speak.  On April 26, 1866  "Remembrance Day", what many consider to be the first Memorial Day, Col. Ramsey spoke eloquently to those gathered there honoring the fallen soldiers.

On May 5, 1868 General Order No.11, the order to observe Decoration Day, was signed.
While we remember those who fell in war and in peace, I also remember and thank those men and women who are actively serving in the military of our country.

May we never forget or take for granted the sacrifices made by these brave men and women. May we always honor, remember and respect them for their courage and devotion. We have them and those that went before them to thank for our continued freedom and liberties that we all enjoy.

My wish for you: that you may always live in the land of the free and the home of the brave

Francie, we come from good and honorable stock! Uncle Bill and Uncle Nolan look mighty dapper in those uniforms...God bless them and those that served with them!

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful legacy you have been left! I'm so grateful to all who are willing to stand in the place of me in the field of battle.

Heroes all!
Well said, we so appreciate our service men past and present!

Francie, I love the photos you shared. I swear I cried when I read your comment on my post. I'm afraid there are many who have forgotten the cost of freedom for our country. In WWII 104,000 plus soldiers died for our freedom. This does not include Viet Nam and the wars that followed. Starting at the head of our government and congress there is greed and disrespect for our country in so many ways. How sad is that??? I am sorry to be so negative. Not common for me but our country is in trouble and I pray for unity in our country every day.

Hi Francie, love your post. But my family and I never take it for granted. Thanks to my brave dad that struggled so much to get us here. Now we are all proud Americans. I was borned in a communist country and never take my freedom for granted, so thankful.
